Apr 3: 1 hour is only the beginning : make Earth Hour every hour

Now that Earth Hour is over for another year, you might be wondering what else you can do to reduce your impact and show your support for effective action on climate change. There's a few things you can do!

If you based in Queensland, check out the QLD government's ClimateSmart Home Service www.climatesmarthome.com and the Low Carbon Diet 30 day program - which encourages Queenslanders to undertake a 30 day carbon reduction program to reduce their carbon footprint by 2 tonnes. www.climatesmart.qld.gov.au/get_involved/low_carbon_diet And in the workplace - ClimateSmart Business - www.climatesmart.qld.gov.au/your_work

If you're in Brisbane, check out www.greenheartcitysmart.com.au for lots of local tips and suggestions.

If you're in the Sunshine Coast region, find out about "Power Down" and other top energy eliminating tips can be viewed on their council website at: www.sunshinecoast.qld.gov.au.

In NSW check out the programs the Department of Environment and Climate Change (DECC) are running. These include

If you're a resident of Perth, join Living Smart! Living Smart is a course in which you will learn techniques to make a positive impact on your home and neighbourhood, while achieving a healthier, happier self. Topics covered include energy efficiency in the home, waste and recycling, biodiversity and food production. Registrations are open now with the first course starting on 23 April. Email for details and to register.

And in the workplace - commercial tenants in the City of Perth, Sydney, Melbourne, Adelaide and Brisbane can all join CitySwitch Green Office, a program designed to support the uptake of more energy efficiency in the office. See www.cityswitch.net.au for all the details.
