Mar 10: Earth Hour will be huge in Cairns

Cairns Regional Council is pulling out all the stops to make sure that Earth Hour 2009 has something for the whole Cairns community.

Earth Hour itself will be marked with a special event on the Esplanade to be opened by the Mayor of Cairns, Cr Val Schier, and local business leaders. Schools from Cairns will give Earth Hour presentations, and kids of all ages can enjoy an outdoor screening of Ice Age 2 (and of course all of the carbon emissions from the screening will be offset!).

At 8.30pm as the lights go out all over Cairns, the haunting sounds of David Hudson's didgeridoo will echo across The Esplanade accompanied by stunning visuals of rainforest and reef - an apt reminder of the treasures of the Cairns region that Earth Hour is aiming to protect.
