Mar 19: Queenslanders go above and beyond for Earth Hour

One of the inspiring things about Earth Hour is the lengths that people are prepared to go to, to show their support for strong action on climate change, and this year stories are already coming in that show the commitment of ordinary people:

  • Security staff at Southern Queensland Institute of TAFE have volunteered to come in to work on the night to turn off the lights.
  • The manager of the Park Regis hotel in Brisbane will be interrupting his annual leave to make sure that the hotel's neon sign is switched off for Earth Hour.
  • Peter from Milton's XXXX Brewery is giving up part of his Saturday night to switch the iconic sign off for the hour.
  • Sophie and Emelie from Sweden took time out from their holiday to volunteer for WWF and encourage Brisbane's restaurants to get involved in Earth Hour.

Thank you to these Earth Hour heroes, and to everyone else who in their own way is helping to make Earth Hour 2009 a historic occasion.

If you know someone who has gone the extra mile for Earth Hour, email us at EarthHourAU@wwf.org.au so that we can share their story.
